Hey everyone! I wanted to update you on some important changes Amazon is making to their product title policy, which will take effect on January 21, 2025. These updates are designed to standardize listings and improve the shopping experience for customers across the platform. If you’re a seller, it’s important to pay attention to these new requirements to keep your listings compliant and optimized!
- Character Limit Amazon is setting a new 200-character limit for product titles (including spaces) for most product categories. This means you’ll need to keep your titles clear and concise, while still including key information that helps customers find your products.
- Special Characters Not Allowed
You’ll no longer be able to use certain special characters like
!,$,?,_,{,},^,¬, and¦in your product titles—unless they are part of your brand name. So, if you're currently using any of these characters in your titles, it’s time to clean things up. - No Redundancy You can’t use the same word more than twice in a product title. So, phrases like “Red T-shirt, Red Shirt” won’t fly. The exception is for prepositions, articles, and conjunctions (e.g., “and,” “the,” “of”), which can be used more than once.
- What Happens if Your Titles Don’t Comply? Starting January 21, 2025, any changes to product titles will need to follow these new rules. If your titles don’t comply, Amazon will notify you, and you’ll be able to review and update them in the Manage all inventory section.
- Brand Owners Get Special Override Suggestions If you're a brand owner, Amazon will provide suggestions for non-compliant titles in the Review listing updates section. You’ll have 14 days to approve or modify those suggestions before Amazon automatically updates your titles to meet the requirements. This process will be rolled out gradually.
These changes are meant to make product titles cleaner, more consistent, and easier for customers to read. A more streamlined shopping experience should lead to better customer confidence and, hopefully, more sales!
- Review Your Titles: Take some time now to go through your product titles and make sure they’re compliant with these new rules.
- Update Your Listings: If your titles don’t meet the new requirements, be sure to update them before January 21, 2025.
- Stay Compliant: After the update, make sure all your future product title changes comply with these new rules.
I just wanted to make sure you're aware of these changes so that you’re not caught off guard when they go into effect. Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck with your listings.
